Zimbabwe set to tussle against Ireland in a multi format series in February

On Monday, Zimbabwe Cricket announced a seven-match all-format series against Ireland, which will take place in February 2025. However, the month-long tour will kick off with a one-off Test match at Bulawayo from February 6 to February 10, followed by three ODIs and three T20Is in Harare. The series bears witness to a considerable opportunity for Zimbabwe to regain their footing after a tough-home series against Afghanistan. For all the subjects discussed, the first Test was disturbed by rain, resulting in the drawn contest; however, Zimbabwe failed to protect its pride in the white-ball series with a 2-1 loss in T20Is and a 2-0 ODI series defeat.

The current Afghanistan tour concludes with the second Test, which is ongoing and slated to end on January 6. Zimbabwe Cricket managing director Givemore Makoni said: “We are thrilled by the prospect of hosting back-to-back full tours”. Hosting a full tour alongside another is proof of our combating effort in giving our players continuous international cricket, along impetus to grow the game here in Zimbabwe.”

This series will be the second Test in the history of Zimbabwe vs. Ireland. The last Test match played between the two sides in July 2024 in Belfast saw Ireland win a closely contested battle by four wickets against Zimbabwe.

However, Ireland will be back in Zimbabwe for the first time since the end of 2023 when the two nations were pitted against each other in a six-match white-ball series. There, they won both formats, taking the T20I series 2-1 and the ODI series 2-0.
