Washington Nationals announce their Spring Breakout team

One of the more fun ideas the MLB has come up with over the past couple of years is the Spring Breakout games. They give fans a chance to see their top prospects live in the flesh. Most casual fans don’t follow Minor League baseball super closely but know who the teams top prospects are. This gives them an opportunity to see those guys in live action.

Yesterday, the Nationals put out their roster for this event. While the Nats top two prospects won’t be there, basically everyone else will. Dylan Crews is a lock to make the MLB roster and Travis Sykora is hurt. However, we will be seeing guys like Jarlin Susana and Brady House.

Another guy I am interested in seeing is Seaver King. He has been in Minor League camp, so he has not gotten into any Spring Training games. Being able to see him at this showcase will be fun. Fellow 2024 draftees Luke Dickerson and Caleb Lomavita will also be there.

Luke Dickerson is a bit of a mysterious figure in some ways. He signed for $3.8 million, a record breaking amount for a second round pick. However, he was not a guy with a very long high school track record, rather a late riser with insane athleticism. Dickerson was a high level high school hockey player, so this is the first time he is totally focused on baseball. I have also never seen him play before so I am excited to see him.

The pitching side is a little bit light and frankly shows that the Nats could stand to draft some arms in the 2025 Draft. However, Jarlin Susana and Alex Clemmey are exciting names that will be there.

The Spring Breakout games were a big hit last year and a brilliant idea by the MLB, who can be hit or miss. The Nationals are playing in two Spring Breakout games, both in West Palm Beach. First, they are playing the Astros prospects on March 14th at 2:05. Then for their second game they are playing the Mets prospects on March 16th at 5:05.
