Washington, who currently leads the NHL with a 34-11-6 record (.725 points percentage), has $69,375,000 committed on their salary cap next season with left-wings Andrew Mangiapane and Jakub Vrana, centers Lars Eller and Nic Dowd, right-wing Taylor Raddysh, defensemen Jakob Chychrun and Dylan McIlrath, and goaltender Charlie Lindgren all eligible to hit unrestricted free agency on July 1 at 12 noon ET. Defenseman Alexander Alexeyev and center Hendrix Lapierre could become restricted free agents that day.
Washington is reportedly trying to sign Lindgren and Chychrun to contract extensions, though wanted clarity on the salary cap for next season before moving forward in negotiations with Chychrun. Whether Friday’s news is enough to push them deeper into those talks remains to be seen.
