If hockey doesn’t work out, Marner & Woll could make it as vocalists: Leafs Morning Take

After an off day on Thursday, the Leafs were back to practice on Friday ahead of Saturday night’s tilt in Ottawa.

Round 2 of the Battle of Ontario should be a good one. Ottawa’s been struggling, Toronto’s coming off a lopsided 5-1 loss against Columbus.

We kicked off the Friday edition of Leafs Morning Take on a light note. In case you missed it, Mitch Marner and Joseph Woll were called on stage at the Kygo concert to help sing, ‘Stargazing.’ You love to see it. The crowd went nuts.

Meantime, Matt Murray, who’s having a really strong AHL season, was recalled by the Leafs. In a corresponding move, Dennis Hildeby, who’s really struggled lately, was assigned to the Marlies. The move makes a lot of sense. Joseph Woll will get the brunt of the starts for the foreseeable future, and at this point, it’s important to get Hildeby playing routinely again.

After that, we got into some news from practice. As we mentioned yesterday, Matthew Knies’ injury is not thought to be serious. In fact, he was back at practice today, which obviously is a great sign. Also, Max Domi was skating in the top six, so we’ll see how things shake out for the Sens game. Ottawa took Round 1 3-0 on November 12th at Scotiabank Arena.

Lastly, we played another edition of Take It OR Leaf It. Rosey and I debated whether the Leafs will acquire a top-4 D between now and the trade deadline. Additionally, we discussed if Morgan Rielly would play out the duration of his contract with the Leafs or not and if Dennis Hildeby has made his final appearance for the Leafs this season.

We’ll be back on Monday at 11 AM ET to recap Leafs/Sens, and also look ahead to Toronto’s quiet two game week.
