Delhi Capitals pulled off their biggest chase in IPL history, surprising the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at their home ground in Vizag. For a while, it looked like LSG had the game under control. After a rough start at 7/3 in the powerplay and later at 65/5, it seemed like the Capitals were in trouble. But Axar Patel, Tristan Stubbs, and debutant Vipraj Nigam turned things around, setting it up for Ashutosh Sharma to seal the victory.
This marks only the second time the Delhi team has successfully chased over 200 runs in IPL, beating their previous record from eight years ago when Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson lit up the game against Gujarat Lions at Kotla.
Highest successful run-chases for Delhi in IPL

Ashutosh Sharma was in the zone, going from 20 runs to a stunning 46 off just 11 balls to get the Capitals over the line in their opening match of IPL 2025.
Earlier, LSG looked like they would post a massive score at 161/2 after 13 overs, but the Capitals’ bowlers stepped up, allowing just 48 runs and taking six wickets in the final seven overs, despite some explosive batting from Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran. With their next match against Hyderabad, the Capitals are hoping to build on this win.
