Bruce Boudreau thinks that the Leafs need more from Max Domi: Leafs Morning Take

The fallout continues from Friday night’s blockbuster Mikko Rantanen trade.

On Monday, Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli disclosed that Carolina “at least inquired about Mitch Marner as they were going through this process with Rantanen.”

That’s where the conversation started on the Tuesday edition of Leafs Morning Take as Carter Hutton filled in for Jay Rosehill as co-host.

Now, that’s spicy meatball. In the grand scheme of things, it’s not a big story, but at the very least, it makes you think. How would Leafs fans feel if Toronto flipped Marner for Martin Necas and Jack Drury. Hypotheticals are fun. Of course, the two situations are different as Marner controls his own fate. He has a full no-movement clause while Rantanen could only block a trade to nine teams.

After that, we dove into some of the news and notes from practice the past few days. After doing Monday’s practice outdoors at Prince of Wales Rink in Mimico, Craig Berube and company were back inside on Tuesday. Most notably, Max Pacioretty was in a regular sweater and skating on a line with Fraser Minten and Nick Robertson, which likely indicates his imminent return. On top of that, John Tavares, Matthew Knies, Jacob Quillan, and Calle Jarnkrok skated in non-contact jerseys. The Leafs are getting set to host the Minnesota Wild on Wednesday night.

Then, courtesy of Charm Diamond Centres, legendary NHL head coach and former Leaf Bruce Boudreau dropped by the show. As per usual, he was fantastic. We talked everything from the Rantanen trade and what it could mean for the Marner situation to Domi’s struggles to the trade deadline. There was a lot of meat on this bone.
