Utah Mammoth GM Bill Armstrong gives the 411 on Matias Maccelli: Leafs Morning Take

At last, the 2025/26 NHL schedule is set to be completely released on Wednesday afternoon.

On Monday morning, the league announced a triple header to kick off the festivities on Tuesday, October 7th. We know the Leafs will kick off their campaign the following night on Wednesday, October 8th, we just don’t know who their opponent will be.

Naturally, that’s where the conversation started on the Monday edition of Leafs Morning Take as Jay Rosehill returned to the mix. By the way, if you’re wondering about the show’s thumbnail, that’s Rosey’s pec. He tore it over the weekend wakeboarding. We talked a lot about that, too.

Meantime, brought to you by GRETA BAR YYZ, Utah Mammoth GM Bill Armstrong dropped by the show to shed some light on the Matias Maccelli trade from June 30th. We talked about life in Utah, his Richmond Hill roots, being a Leafs fan growing up, and what the market looks like around the NHL right now. Obviously, we spent the majority of our time with him breaking down the Maccelli trade and how it all came together.

Then, we got into the Daily Faceoff piece suggesting that the Leafs will miss the playoff in 25-26. Yeah, good luck with that. If they can’t find a way to get in with the star power they still have, there’s bigger fish to fry. Weirdly, there’s a perception out there that losing Mitch Marner and not subsequently replacing his production will lead to negative regression. We feel like it’s addition by subtraction, but we shall see in the fall.

Speaking of which, we continued to pick apart the pieces from Thursday’s night deal that saw Ryan Reaves wind up in San Jose. Out the door, Reaves has been very vocal in the media about his time in Toronto. That said, it was a tidy piece of business by Brad Treliving to get rid of the 38-year-old enforcer. We love Reavo, but it was time.

We’ll be back on Wednesday LIVE at 11 AM ET for another edition of Leafs Morning Take. In addition to celebrating Rosey’s 40th birthday, we’ll be teeing up the schedule release. Talk then!
