Three relievers Phillies should consider at MLB trade deadline

The Major League Baseball trade deadline is quickly approaching on July 31.

As June begins, it’s evident that the Philadelphia Phillies bullpen could use some help. Entering Tuesday, it has a 4.65 ERA  this season, good for 25th in MLB.

Let’s examine some affordable trade options the Phillies should consider at the deadline.

Jake Bird, RHP, Colorado Rockies

While the Rockies are on pace to have the worst season in baseball history, Bird is having a breakout year on the mound. The 29-year-old has a career-best 1.56 ERA and 1.15 WHIP through 25 games. Opponents are batting just .205 against him in 34.2 innings. Therefore, he’s quickly emerged as a trade target for contending teams, especially those that need bullpen help.
