Tampa Bay Rays Minor League Roundup: Week 16

This week’s minor league roundup will only feature the numbers accumulated prior to the start of play on Monday.

This was the 16th week of minor league play.

According to FanGraphs (which factors in age and proximity to the big leagues), the overall top hitter in the Rays farm system is 25-year old Tristan Peters, although Adrian Santana is closing in. The Rays originally acquired Peters from the Giants in a 40-man roster deadline deal following the 2022 season. Thus far in 2025, Peters is hitting .293/.383/.469 with 9 HR and 10 SB over 358 plate appearances, registering a 125 wRC+

Ian Seymour and Joe Boyle have longheld the top spot among pitchers in the Rays system but now both are in the big leagues and the mantle has been claimed by someone else: Ty Johnson. The 23-year old came to the Rays as part of the return for Isaac Paredes and is having a fantastic season. His overall numbers are listed further below.

RUMBLINGS

  • The Tampa Bay Rays have released Eloy Jimenez. The veteran designated hitter struggled once again to remain healthy but only hit .256/.330/.360 during his time on the field within the Rays organization.
  • Brody Hopkins pitched the bottom of the 6th inning for the American League side of the Futures Game and threw just nine pitches, retiring the side in order.
  • Baseball America listed five players making noise in the Dominican Summer League. Among them is Anderson Alvarez. The Rays signed the 17-year old Alvarez this past January.

The righthander’s fastball only tops out at around 92 mph, but the cleanness and repeatability in his delivery—plus the fact that he’s about three inches taller than his listed 5-foot-11 frame—suggests that much more velocity could be coming if his body matures the right way. Alvarez throws a pair of breaking balls, and his curveball is ahead of his slider at the moment. He’s got a solid feel for the zone as well, making him a name to watch in the coming years.
