Scotland’s Brandon McMullen hit a big milestone by scoring 1,000 runs in ODIs during a match against the UAE on May 14 in Kampong. He reached this mark in just 26 innings, making him the fastest Scottish player to do so. He broke the previous record held by Kyle Coetzer, who achieved it in 28 innings. While McMullen is still a bit off the all-time record set by Pakistan’s Fakhar Zaman (18 innings), it’s a solid accomplishment for the 25-year-old, especially considering how few ODIs Scotland plays.
After a standout performance last October where he scored 150 against the USA, McMullen has continued to impress during the League 2 matches in the Netherlands, already racking up a couple of fifties. His record puts him ahead of some big names like Mike Hussey (27 innings), KL Rahul (27), and even Sachin Tendulkar (34) among others.
In the same match, McMullen not only made runs but also played a crucial role with the ball, helping Scotland dismiss the UAE for 162 runs, with both he and Brad Currie taking three wickets. This helped set up a comfortable chase for Scotland.
Currently, Scotland sits fourth in the League 2 standings after 15 matches, as they aim for a spot in the 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia. The Netherlands, the USA, and Canada are ahead of them in the table. Scotland’s next game is against the Netherlands on May 16, just before the competition moves to the USA for the final leg involving the USA, Canada, and Oman.
