Ryan Getzlaf says starting on time will be crucial for Canada on Thursday night: Leafs Morning Take

We’re now just one sleep away from watching the rematch we’ve been waiting since Saturday to see.

Final preparations are underway for both Canada and the United States as they get to tangle in the championship game of the 4 Nations Face-Off in Boston on Thursday night.

We kicked off the Wednesday edition of Leafs Morning Take by discussing how transparent the Boston Bruins were in their issued statement regarding Charlie McAvoy’s health. Naturally, the conversation morphed into one about the Leafs and what it would be like if they were even remotely close to that transparent with their injuries. Wishful thinking.

Brought to you by Firehouse Subs, we broke down some of the news and notes from Maple Leafs practice on Tuesday as Craig Berube and company returned to the ice. Quite honestly, there wasn’t much to discuss. William Nylander’s back in Toronto but didn’t skate (obviously). Meantime, both Calle Jarnkrok and Jani Hakanpaa took part in the skate, so that’s good. Also, fresh off his AHL recall, Alex Steeves was out there, too. The Leafs will be back in action on Saturday night when they host the Carolina Hurricanes.

After that, we dove into the latest 4 Nations news. The situation is fluid, but as of right now, Quinn Hughes isn’t expected to play for Team USA. Hours after Mike Sullivan stated that Hughes was on his way to join the team, he was spotted on the ice at Canucks practice —in a red non-contact jersey, no less. Furthermore, adding to the drama, Brady Tkachuk didn’t practice Wednesday, his brother Matthew and Auston Matthews did. On top of that, Rosey addressed Chris ‘Mad Dog’ Russo’s comments suggesting Saturday night’s three scraps in nine seconds had a WWE feel to them. As expected, Rosey brought the heat.

Then, Hockey Canada’s Player Relations Advisor Ryan Getzlaf dropped by the show for a full preview of Thursday night’s championship game. On top of that, he dished on Sidney Crosby and what he remembers about the golden goal in 2010. Also, he broke down what he thinks it will take for Canada to push through – for all the marbles – against their rivals.

Carter Hutton will be in for Jay Rosehill on the Thursday edition of Leafs Morning Take. In addition to offering up a final preview for the big game, we’ll be joined by two big guests. Washington Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery and TSN Host extraordinaire James Duthie are expected to drop by.
