After covering goalkeepers and centre-backs in my first two pieces, we move to the next priority position at Newcastle United this summer.
A right-winger. After a long wait, this summer is surely our time to bring in another option; and a quality one at that.
A position that has been left unattended for too long now must be finally addressed come July.
Jacob Murphy has been so impressive this season, certainly his best year at the club with Sunday’s assist his 12th of the campaign, but he isn’t the long-term solution.
Not only that, but he is the club’s only out-and-out right winger after the sale of Miguel Almiron in January. Now is the time to get it sorted, and done so to the point that can help take us to the next level.
Many names have floated around the Newcastle transfer sphere since the takeover was finalised, however, a few particular individuals seem to have caught our recruitment’s eye especially recently.
Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo has been watched, Southampton sensation Tyler Dibling could be an exciting addition under Eddie Howe’s guidance and Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo tore us apart at St James’ Park a few months ago.
Celtic’s Nicolas Kuhn could be a low-cost gamble worth taking and there has also been links to PSV’s Johan Bakayoko, Sporting Lisbon’s Francisco Trincao and Monaco talent Maghnes Akliouche; a player Paul Mitchell may know well from his time in France.
Mbuemo is the obvious choice for me as he has proved his worth in the league already, would suit us perfectly and has the elite level of output we are crying out for. But, any of the above could be welcome additions to the squad.
Each will have their suitors across Europe and few will come cheap, increasing our need for a strong end to the season and Champions League football to attract our top targets.
