Newcastle receive £5m bid as Premier League club eye Miguel Almiron – Report

Miguel Almiron is not short of suitors as a transfer away from Newcastle United is again the talk of the transfer window.

The Paraguayan was touted with a move to Saudi Arabia or a return to the MLS last summer, but the list of clubs said to be interested in signing the winger is getting longer and longer and it’s hoped a deal can be reached this month.

Almiron has fallen out of favour and St. James Park so you would think a deal would suit all parties, but nothing is ever that simple…

Leicester City and an unnamed Brazilian club have joined MLS outfit Charlotte FC in pursuit of Almiron, but there is “no guarantee” the winger leaves this month with his wages being a potential stumbling block, reports The Mail’s Craig Hope.

A £5m bid has been submitted for the 30-year-old from the Brazilian top flight, while the Foxes have continued to monitor his situation since the summer.

Almiron, however, would prefer a return to the MLS, and Charlotte themselves have the strongest interest in getting the deal done after holding talks over the summer.

That said, Hope adds that Miggy is “not desperate” to leave, despite his total lack of minutes – he’s started just one league game all season – and would not depart unless the financial expectations of him and his agent are met.

It feels all too similar to last January, when Miggy was linked with a move to Saudi Arabia that never came to fruition and as a result we were unable to bring anyone through the door with our ongoing PSR issues.

If we aren’t to sell, whether it be Almiron or Sean Longstaff who is also available for transfer, then we may have to delay any incomings until the summer when the situation eases slightly.

Hopefully wage demands are reasonable, as it would be a shame – for his career too – if he stayed, we missed out on fee/ability to sign and he rotted on the bench.
