Some more breaking news to report on a surprisingly busy Monday night, this time regarding a potential outgoing.
After breaking news of our £52m move for Anthony Elanga, The Athletic’s David Ornstein now reveals that Leeds United are pushing to sign Sean Longstaff.
He reports that the newly-promoted side have submitted an offer worth £10m plus £2m in add-ons, which is believed to be their third bid for the 27-year-old.
Ornstein states that an agreement over personal terms are already in place for the midfielder, who wants his boyhood team to secure a fee this summer, rather than lose him on a free transfer in 12 months time now he has entered the final year of his contract.
Newcastle are yet to reply to Leeds’ latest bid, but it’s thought the Whites are now ‘close to their limit’ regarding the fee and will pursue other options soon should they now hear back from Newcastle.
Longstaff has slipped well down the midfield pecking order on Tyneside and hasn’t started a Premier League game under Eddie Howe since our 4-2 defeat at Brentford back in December.
The local lad has lived the dream, played over 200 times for his boyhood club, scored in the Champions League and lifted a trophy at Wembley back in March. Considering his contract situation and recent lack of game time, this could be a smart move for all parties and an offer worth accepting.
