Maple Leafs’ Chris Tanev discharged from hospital, placed on IR; Dakota Mermis recalled from Marlies
a stretcher was called out for Tanev after this
Thankfully, Tanev flashed a thumbs up as he was being carried off the ice, and following the news that he was discharged from hospital and cleared to return to Toronto, it seems like somewhat of a best-case scenario for all parties after the way things looked originally.
Tanev flashes a thumbs up
hope he’s alright
Expect the Maple Leafs to exercise some caution with Tanev going forward considering his age and the amount of minutes he logs with the Maple Leafs when fully healthy. Tanev has suffered concussions earlier in his career, and after two incidents to start the season, there won’t be any impetus to rush the 35-year-old back into the lineup.
Philippe Myers will likely enter the lineup in Tanev’s absence, although it’s possible that Mermis will slide back in as well. Mermis played one game for the Maple Leafs, sporting a -2 rating in a 5-3 loss to the Buffalo Sabres on October 24.
The Maple Leafs will be back in action on Monday night when they host the Pittsburgh Penguins, looking to build a winning streak after being denied a three-game streak with their loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday night.
