The Toronto Maple Leafs are now a perfect 4-0-0 on Prime Monday Night Hockey this season.
On top of that, two of those wins have come against Jon Cooper’s Tampa Bay Lightning.
Before we got into the recap, we kicked off the Tuesday edition of Leafs Morning Take by dissecting the three-game suspension handed out to Oilers captain Connor McDavid. For some reason, the folks out in Edmonton are pissed about it. You do the crime, you do the time, baby —pretty simple stuff. At any rate, after that, we talked about a celebrity sighting at Monday night’s game. Mike Myers, who’s a massive Leafs fan, was there to take in the Prime game. Yeah, baby. The Love Guru himself!
Brought to you by Greta Bar, we did a full recap of the 5-3 home ice victory. Simply put, Toronto’s top line was the difference. The trio of Matthew Knies, Auston Matthews, and Mitch Marner combined for four goals and four assists. Furthermore, Knies continued his dominance of Tampa. In eight career outings against the Bolts, he now has seven goals and 13 points. Ownership! Additionally, the Leafs captain is starting to cook in a big way. If you’re keeping score at home, that’s now eight goals in the past nine games. On top of all that, Joseph Woll put forth another strong performance and Toronto’s power play was able to supply another goal. Also, William Nylander scored on another breakaway. He’s now five goals off Leon Draisaitl’s league lead of 33. Honestly, it’s amazing how much difference a week makes in Leafs Nation.
Then, courtesy of Charm Diamond Centres, Amazon Prime’s Adnan Virk dropped by the show. We talked about the Leafs/Lightning, Toronto’s long-term prospects this season, how Adnan failed to land a role in Mike Myers,’ “The Love Guru,” and what it was like covering Brian Burke’s Maple Leafs for MLSE. Adnan was a lot of fun! He always brings the energy.
Lastly, because he wasn’t there for yesterday’s show, I got Rosey to share his thoughts on the whole Reaves/Xhekaj thing from over the weekend.
Coming up on the Wednesday edition of Leafs Morning Take, we will preview Leafs/Jackets and Jeff Marek will drop by the show.
