Another night, another ugly performance for the Maple Leafs.
No Kaprizov, no problem for the Minnesota Wild who waltzed into Scotiabank Arena and pulled out a 3-1 victory.
First and foremost, we gave our initial thoughts on that to kick off the Thursday edition of Leafs Morning Take.
After that, on a lighter note, I had Rosey break down his first NHL goal. Who did he score it on? Some guy named Marc-Andre Fleury. Very timely.
Meantime, a very intriguing name is about to become an unrestricted free agent. On Wednesday, Brandon Saad and the St. Louis Blues mutually agreed to terminate his contract. The 32-year-old winger played for Craig Berube. The Leafs currently have a lot of bodies in their bottom-six, but without question, Saad could prove to be a good fit.
Simply put, Toronto’s outing against Minnesota just wasn’t good enough. Weirdly, a lot of the narrative after the game was about Morgan Rielly’s continued struggles, but how about the dried-up offence? The Leafs have scored a grand total of three goals during this three game losing skid. Furthermore, they fell to 3-3-0 without John Tavares, who’s expected to return along with Matthew Knies on Saturday night in Edmonton. Rest assured, there will be some soul searching on Toronto’s flight out to Western Canada.
Brough to you by Greta Bar, we welcomed in NHL Network’s Jason Demers. The former NHL blueliner had a clip go viral last week ranting about the soulless lower bowl atmosphere at Scotiabank Arena. He followed up on that in this interview. Additionally, we got his thoughts on if this Leafs team has the right mix to go deep, Morgan Rielly’s struggles, and what the Leafs should look to do between now and the March 7th trade deadline.
Carter Hutton will be in for Jay Rosehill on the Friday edition of Leafs Morning Take. Join us at 11 AM ET as we preview Saturday night’s huge tilt in Edmonton.
