Howe rejects Isak claim and talks Aaron Ramsdale in South Korea press conference

Newcastle United have touched down in South Korea and will be back in action tomorrow, taking on a K-League XI at 12pm (BST) on Wednesday.

In preparation, Eddie Howe has been speaking to the media alongside Dan Burn, and was once again asked to give an update on Alexander Isak’s future.

Aaron Ramsdale’s name also came up, with the press asking about links with the Southampton goalkeeper who has been tipped to arrive on a loan-to-buy deal over the last 24 hours.

Asked about Isak, Howe insisted the club, “to a degree”, control what’s next for him given his contract situation and hopes to see him stay, adding that there has NOT been any formal bid despite suggestions of a £120 proposal from  Liverpool.

“He is still our player. He’s contracted to us. We, to a degree, control what is next for him. I would love to believe all possibilities are still available to us. We’ve received no formal offer from him from any football club for him.

My wish is that he stays and we see him play again next year, but that’s not in my full control.”

On to Ramsdale, reports suggest Newcastle are closing in an initial loan deal for the 27-year-old that could include an option to buy next summer.

Howe refused to talk about the details or the “chances of him coming to us”, but did say he’s a player he knows “very well” from his time at Bournemouth:

“As always with me, you’re going to get a very straight (answer) back.

“Obviously Aaron is someone that I know very well and I’ve worked with previously, but I’m not going to discuss the chances of him coming to us”
