€10m release clause identified as Paul Mitchell eyes Hertha Berlin star – Report

Reports in Germany claim Newcastle United are set to compete with a number of Premier League sides for the signing of a 2. Bundesliga star this summer.

Transfer talk has continued in the wake of the January window, with the Magpies linked with a whole host of attacking talent including Victor Osimhen, Roger Fernandes, Victor Boniface and Jean Phillipe-Mateta.

Antonio Cordeiro is set to sign for our academy from Malaga this summer on a pre-contract agreement, and another young attacker is now being mentioned; this time via the German media.

After a few tough windows, we’ll finally enter the summer in a much stronger PSR position and it’s believed Paul Mitchell is keen to recruit a mixture of young gems and proven stars able to immediately improve Eddie Howe’s XI.

Newcastle are one of seven Premier League clubs preparing to compete for the signature of Hertha Berlin star Ibrahim Maza, according to SportBILD.

The 19-year-old attacking midfield talent has five goals and four assists in the German second division this season and has a €10m release clause in his contract becoming valid this summer, sparking plenty of early interest.

That isn’t to say a deal will be straightforward, however, with Brentford, Brighton, Leicester, Manchester City, Southampton and Wolves also thought to be interested.

The blue half of Manchester pipped us to a few young stars last month, with Newcastle missing out on centre-backs Abdukhodir Khusanov and Juma Bah to Man City.

Atletico Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen, VfB Stuttgart and Olympique Marseille are also on the long list of prospective buyers for the Algerian talent who we have shown a previous interest in, with SportBILD reporting that we made contact with Hertha regarding Maza in December.

Paul Mitchell’s push to sign emerging talents with a view to growing into the first team is becoming clearer over the last few months, with a flurry of players with high potential linked with, or completing, moves to Tyneside.

Vakhtang Salia, Baran Yildiz, Kyle Fitzgerald and Rory Finneran our just some of the names secured recently and can be considered to have a path to the first team that has been travelled by Trevan Sanusi, Sean Neave and Sam Alabi in different capacities this season.

Little Benton was once a forgotten project but our academy too has seen a significant boost since sporting director Mitchell, and Dan Ashworth before him to a lesser extent, got their hands on proceedings.
