Champions hit with another blow with Pedri set to miss several weeks

Barcelona have suffered another injury blow with the news midfielder Pedri has been ruled out until after the next international break.

The Spain international has a left hamstring injury and is set to miss at least three games.

He was scheduled to sit out Sunday’s home clash with Elche anyway after being sent off late in Barca’s 2-1 defeat at Real Madrid but will also now be unavailable for the Champions League clash at Club Brugge on November 5 and the trip to Celta Vigo four days later.

It is also highly unlikely he will be able to link up with the national side for their World Cup qualifying doubleheader against Georgia and Turkey.

A Barca statement read: “First team player Pedri has suffered a tear in the distal biceps femoris muscle in his left thigh.”

It is another blow for Blaugrana boss Hansi Flick who had to do without Joan Garcia, Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Dani Olmo, Gavi and Robert Lewandowski for the Clasico loss at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Pedri has made 41 consecutive competitive appearances for Barca but that run will come to an end at the weekend.

In better news for the Liga champions, who are now five points behind leaders Madrid, both Olmo and Lewandowski rejoined group training this morning.
