The Washington Capitals fell to the Dallas Stars on Monday by a score of 3-1. The loss pushes the Caps’ record to 20-7-2 (44 pts). The loss ended the Capitals’ 10-game win streak on the road.

The Capitals got on the board late in the opening 20 minutes, as Dylan Strome redirected a Jakob Chychrun shot from the point past Oettinger for his 11th goal of the season; Taylor Raddysh recorded the secondary assist.

The two teams ended the first with the Caps on top on the scoreboard and trailing Dallas 9-7 in Shots on Goal. The Capitals also failed to convert on a man-advantage early in the contest.
2ND PERIOD
Roope Hintz recorded his 12th goal of the season on the power play late in the second frame, putting the puck past Charlie Lindgren at 13:28 with John Carlson in the penalty box for high-sticking. Jamie Benn and Wyatt Johnston recorded the assists on the goal.

A Lian Bischell shot from the point would deflect off Rasmus Sandin’s hand to give Dallas a 2-1 lead that they would carry into the second intermission.

The Stars fell behind in the SOG department, with the Caps holding a 17-16 lead after40 minutes. Washington failed to convert on two more power play chances while the Stars scored on their only man-advantage thus far in the night.
3RD PERIOD
The Stars padded their lead late in the third period, with Hintz putting home his second of the night to give Dallas a 3-1 lead after a turnover behind the Washington net. Jason Robertson was credited with the assist on the play.

The Capitals’ franchise-record win streak away from Capital One Arena ended at 10 games, with the Caps having been unable to find an answer for Jake Oettinger in the Dallas net. The Capitals led the Stars 26-24 in shots on net, and failed to put the puck in the net in four power play opportunities.
