Brian Boyle isn’t concerned about Toronto’s slow start & Chris Tanev lands on IR: Leafs Morning Take
Simply put, the Toronto Maple Leafs have four very winnable games coming up to finish off the opening month of the season.
Lucky for them, outside of Montreal and Detroit, no one’s really had a great start around them in the Atlantic Division.
That’s where the conversation started on the Thursday edition of Leafs Morning Take. So far, it’s been a mixed bag for a lot of the top contenders. Furthermore, Rosey weighed in on the Leafs specifically and his level of concern regarding their slow 3-3-1 start. Spoiler: He’s at about a five. He thinks they’ll figure it out in short order here.
Meantime, on Thursday morning, the Leafs placed Chris Tanev on injured reserve —retroactive to October 21st. That means that the veteran blueliner will miss at least the next three games. It’s unfortunate news for a Leafs team already floundering defensively. That said, they need to have a next man up mentality. Phil Myers is expected to make his season debut on Friday night in Buffalo.
On top of all that, we discussed the latest on Joseph Woll (nothing), Scott Laughton (getting closer to returning), and what Anthony Stolarz had to say post-game following the Devils game. Talk about damage control. He called it a “really good effort.” Alrighty then. Any way you slice it, the Leafs need to be better. Buffalo’s been playing well lately, so they better be ready to go this weekend.
Then, former Leaf Brian Boyle, now with the NHL Network, dropped by the show. Boyler weighed in on Toronto’s lacklustre start and what style of play he thinks will bring this team long-term success. Additionally, he talked Craig Berube and what he’s trying to instill in Toronto. Brian thinks guys like Dakota Joshua and Nicolas Roy will prove to be big additions in the second half of the season. He’s not worried about the slow start. He thinks the Leafs are built for postseason success.
Leafs Morning Take will be back on Friday at 11 AM ET. Join us as we preview this weekend’s crucial back-to-back with the Buffalo Sabres.
