Joseph Woll was retroactively put on the long term injured reserve on October 23rd back to the start of the season. That requirement alone would keep Woll ineligible for a return to the Maple Leafs active roster until the November 1st game against the Flyers at the earliest. And while that return seems unlikely, the Leafs do have back-to-back games on the November 8th and 9th weekend which could be the target for Woll rejoining the Leafs.
The Marlies have games on October 29th, November 1st, 2nd, 5th, and 7th that fall within that timeframe and depending on how much work the Leafs want to give Woll before returning him to the Leafs a game on the 1st or 2nd and possible the game on the 5th seem like the most likely options.
The Maple Leafs have back-to-back games this week, facing Calgary on Tuesday and Columbus on Wednesday, with the likelihood of Cayden Primeau getting one of those starts while Anthony Stolarz takes the other. Following Woll’s activation it is likely that Cayden Primeau will be placed on waivers.
Woll was the Leafs’ workhorse last season, starting half of the regular season games and playing in 42 total before taking over the net in the second round of the playoffs as well. He finished the year with a .909 save percentage and 0.413 Goals Saved Above Expected/60 last season, numbers that would be welcomed on the Leafs right now.
