For the second straight season, the Florida Panthers are Stanley Cup champions.
Most importantly, that means the Leafs were eliminated by the team that went on to win it all.
That’s where the conversation started on the Wednesday edition of Leafs Morning Take. Should Leafs fans feel better or worse about how the season ended? That’s a fair question, especially seeing Edmonton get dismantled the way they did late in the series. It wasn’t even close —at least it felt that way. You can’t help but feel for Oilers fans. They had nothing. Absolutely nothing. In these parts, we’re all too familiar with that against the mighty Panthers. What a juggernaut.
Then, brought to you by Charm Diamond Centres, 2025 Jack Adams Trophy winner and former Leafs assistant Spencer Carbery dropped by the show once again. We hit on a variety of different topics with the head coach of the Washington Capitals. We started with dissecting the Stanley Cup Final and getting Carbs’ thoughts on what makes the Panthers such a great team and organization. After that, we got into his Jack Adams winning season. Then, he touched on his time in Toronto and how much he owes to Kyle Dubas and Sheldon Keefe for giving him a shot in the NHL. Additionally, he talked about what it’s like coaching Alex Ovechkin. Lastly, he hit on Craig Berube, the new look Leafs, and what we can expect from Derek Lalonde in Toronto.
On top of all that, we hit on the latest news and notes surrounding the Leafs. Rosey wants Toronto to go after Corey Perry. He may be 40, but damn, he’s still very impactful. Also, we touched on Mitch Marner maybe waiting until mid-July to make his free agent decision. Good luck! After that, we hit quickly on Jonathan Toews. There hasn’t been confirmation, but at this point, it sounds more and more like Toronto won’t end being where the future Hall-of-Famer ends of signing.
Lastly, for the CRISPI HOT TAKE OF THE DAY, presented by the Ninja Crispi 4-in-1 Portable Glass Air Fryer, upon further assessment, Producer Vick thinks the Leafs were the second best team in the NHL this season. Hard to argue with that!
Meantime, we’re getting closer and closer to the NHL Draft and free agency. Be sure to join us for the Thursday edition of Leafs Morning Take at 11 AM ET as we dive through the latest news and notes pertaining to the Maple Leafs. Also, Sportsnet’s Anna Dua will drop by the show.
