Ryan Leslie thinks some time on the road could do the Leafs some good: Leafs Morning Take
The World Series is down to a best-of-3.
Just like they’ve done all season long, the resilient, pesky, and banged up Blue Jays found a way to get the job done in Game 4 on Tuesday night following their heartbreaking 18 inning Game 3 defeat. This team is special. There’s not much else to say. Shane Bieber was great. Vladdy Guerrero Jr. hit a clutch two run bomb. We’ll see what unfolds tonight. Meantime, we did discuss NHL Frozen Frenzy for a few minutes, too. For the record, I went 11-for-16 with my picks. Not too bad.
After that, we got into the nuts and bolts of the Leafs’ 4-3 win over the Calgary Flames. It wasn’t pretty, but once again, they got the job done for their second straight victory. Matthew Knies notched two goals and an assist while Max Domi potted two of his own —one of which was the game winning goal. William Nylander picked up an apple in his return to the lineup. John Tavares had one assist and five shots on goal. Maybe No. 500 comes tonight in Columbus. Furthermore, Anthony Stolarz made 26 stops. We discussed his play lately. It’s been a bit up and down. We think Joseph Woll’s return will really help solidify the crease. Also, Toronto’s power play went 1-for-4. Is it turning the corner? Too early to tell. Incredibly, dating back to last season, the Leafs PP is now 7-for-61 in the month of October. Wild stuff.
Maple Leafs team host Ryan Leslie then joined us. Firstly, he dished on the plane ride to Columbus with the Jays game going on. After that, he weighed in on the big win against Calgary. Early on in his Toronto tenure, Leslie has been blown away with Knies. Not surprising whatsoever. On top of that, he spoke about Tavares’ professionalism and Max Domi’s red-hot play lately. Additionally, Leslie pulled back the curtain on the urgency level behind the scenes over the up and down first month and what it was like to get Woll back in the mix last week.
Lastly, for the Ninja Crispi HOT TAKE OF THE WEEK, Producer Vick thinks the Leafs should make a move for Steven Stamkos. It was a fun debate, but ultimately, me and Rosey voted against the idea.
Be sure to join us tomorrow for the Thursday edition of Leafs Morning Take (11 AM ET). In addition to recapping the Leafs/Jackets game, fresh off the release of her new book, Andi Petrillo will drop by the show.
