In a recent podcast, Indian cricket team spinner Yuzvendra Chahal discussed his relationship with his ex-wife, Dhanashree Verma, an actor and choreographer. A Mumbai family court granted Chahal and Verma a divorce in March, ending their five-year marriage. They married in December 2020 but separated in June 2022, according to their petition. In February, they jointly filed for divorce by mutual consent.
Chahal said that he hasn’t texted or spoken to Verma in a long time. After the 2024 T20 World Cup, their conversations were only formal.
I hadn’t seen her for a while, and then I saw her on a video call where the lawyers spoke to us. That’s it, no message or anything after that. Before the divorce, we weren’t talking for six to seven months. We only talked if something was very important; otherwise, nothing. It was like that for a while, but it really started after the T20 World Cup, Chahal said on Raj Shamani’s YouTube channel.
When asked who initiated the divorce discussion, Chahal said, She brought it up sometimes, and I did too on occasion, and one day it happened mutually.
Asked if there was any chance of reconciliation, Chahal said, No, we tried enough. I did my best.
The divorce case attracted press, with scrutiny of both their lives, and Chahal spoke openly about his mental health during that time.
Chahal stated that he never cheated on Verma, despite rumors. They kept their separation secret until the divorce was final.
It was going on for a while. We decided we didn’t want to show people. Who knew if it wouldn’t happen? Maybe it would become a different scenario. We decided to wait until we reached the end before saying anything. We acted like a normal couple on social media, Chahal said.
