Just like last week, Atlanta Braves second baseman Ozzie Albies is the Battery Power Braves Player of the Week.
Outside of starters Chris Sale and Bryce Elder and relievers Raisel Iglesias and Tyler Kinley, it was largely a forgettable week for the team’s pitching staff.
Offensively, Matt Olson had another nice week as did the team’s new starting shortstop, Ha-Seong Kim.
Third baseman Nacho Alvarez, Jr. had maybe the best offensive week of his short MLB career, collecting seven hits – including three doubles – with a walk and a hit-by-pitch this week.
But it was Albies who took home the honors for the second consecutive week.
Battery Power Braves Player of the Week: Ozzie Albies
With 18 games remaining in the regular season, Ozzie Albies and Matt Olson have been the only two Braves to play in every game. Olson’s consecutive game streak continues on – his is the 12th longest in the history of the game – but for Albies, who has had two of his past three seasons end early due to injuries, it’s good seeing him take the field every day.
Or, at least it has been since early August.
It is well-documented how mightily Albies struggled for much of the season. But, maybe due to his wrist finally healed or just typical adjustments with progression from his regression, Albies has been Atlanta’s best and most consistent offensive performer for the past month.
This week, Albies produced 10 hits that included two home runs, a double, a triple, a walk and two stolen bases. His week included four multi-hit games while he paced the team in OPS with a xwOBA that was among the best in the league for the past week.
His outburst of production has him with in range of the 20/20 season as he is sitting on 15 home runs and 14 stolen bases with three weeks remaining in the regular season.
With a team option for 2026 on the table for Albies, it seems more-and-more likely that Atlanta will make the $3M commitment to bring the second baseman back – especially given he has a $4M buyout as part of that option year.
